Choppa Lite

One bank. Sixteen pads.

Record up to twelve seconds. It lands on the pads already chopped where the hits are. Play.

Browser · mic · your bank stays in this browser · FM-1 over USB

What it does

  • RECORD — up to twelve seconds from the mic, or IMPORT a file.
  • Sixteen pads — AUTO finds the hits; EQUAL cuts evenly. Tap a pad, it plays.
  • START / END — choose the part of the take that gets chopped.
  • Per chop — IN / OUT, pitch, ONE SHOT / LOOP / PING PONG, reverse.
  • LIBRARY — every take you make, kept in this browser.
  • SAVE WAV — the take, as a file.

SEND TO FM-1

Plug an M-VAVE FM-1 into your computer or phone with a USB cable and SEND TO FM-1 puts your sixteen chops on its keys, on the track you pick. You hear each pad exactly as the FM-1 will play it before you send.

  • RATE trades quality for time: one slot holds about 3.5 s at 44K, 7 s at 22K, 19 s at 8K. It steps down by itself when the bank doesn't fit.
  • USB only. No Bluetooth, no 5-pin MIDI for samples.
  • Firmware: it speaks the Felucca editor's sample protocol, so it needs no change on the WaveLoop Kit firmware, stock Felucca 1.5.1 or SLOOP 2.6 synth tracks. The WaveLoop Kit is the one we have run against hardware; stock Felucca and SLOOP are not yet proven on a device.
  • In the browser today; in Choppa coming in 1.13.

For developers: the protocol is open — USB MIDI SysEx, an 80 KiB slot with a 512-byte FSMP header, 16 zones, 4-bit IMA ADPCM. Read it.

Felucca is by Leo Kuroshita / Hugelton Instruments and SLOOP by isod89, both GPL and independent of WaveLoop. M-VAVE and FM-1 are trademarks of their owners.

The App Clip

Choppa Lite is an App Clip with Choppa 1.13: this address opens it on an iPhone or iPad without installing the app. A take you make there shows up in the full Choppa's library the next time you open it. Coming with 1.13; the App Store has 1.12 today.

Twelve seconds in. Sixteen chops out.

Free in the browser. The full Choppa picks up where you left it.
