DropZones

Folders that convert what you drop in.

Drop an image into a zone and a converted copy lands in that zone's _out folder a couple of seconds later. Drag it straight out to wherever wanted it.

DropZones runs on a Mac. Send yourself the link and download it there.

What it is

  • A zone is a folder with a small settings file in it. Make the folder, and DropZones watches it.
  • Drop a file in and the converted copy lands in the zone's _out folder. Your original stays where it was.
  • The image work runs on what your Mac already has. Nothing else to install.
  • The app lists your zones, makes new ones, and lets you drag results straight out of it.

What a zone can do

  • Fit — shrink so the longest edge is a size you pick, like 1600 pixels for the web.
  • Pad — fit inside an exact size and letterbox the rest, for upload forms that want fixed dimensions.
  • Exact — resample to an exact size.
  • Convert — same size, new format.
  • Sort — no conversion: the folder is the result. Move or copy files in to file them.
  • Script — run your own convert.sh for video, audio, PDFs or anything else your tools handle.

Images in: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP and WebP. Images out: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF or BMP. A zone can carry presets, shown as tabs on that zone, so one folder can switch between sizes or looks.

Scripts wait for you

A script zone does nothing until you open DropZones, read that exact script and approve it. Change one character and it waits for you again.

Your AI can write zones

A zone is a folder and a plain text file, so anything that can write a folder can make one. Ask the assistant you already use for “a zone that makes 1200-pixel JPEGs for the web” and DropZones picks it up. Approving a script is always yours to do.

Drop it in. Drag it out.
