They are made by Elijah Lucian. The through-line: **the tool gets out of the way fast enough that you forget it is software.** You do not configure anything. You do not set up a session. You do not read a manual. You hit record, you hit something, and a thing exists. Then you play it. That loop — record, instrument, play — is meant to happen in seconds. Not minutes. Everything else is downstream of protecting it. ## Who it is for People who make things in the moment. Songwriters sketching. Live loopers. Beatmakers chopping a sample on a bus. Field recordists. Anyone whose ideas arrive fast. It is for catching the thing before it goes. ## The lineage MPCs. Cassette four-tracks. Loop pedals. The OP-1 field. The era before the screen ate the studio. WaveLoop apps are a continuation of physical instruments that happened to record themselves. --- # How these apps behave These are the rules the apps actually follow. They explain most "why does it do that" questions. ## Destructive by design There is no undo stack. You overwrite. Committing to the take *is* the take — the constraint is the feature, the same way it was on tape. If you want to keep a version, keep it before you record over it. This surprises people coming from a DAW. It is not an oversight. ## It picks up exactly where you left it Close an app mid-take, open it tomorrow: transport position, buffer contents, loaded item, selected input, every control, the view you were on. All of it comes back. There are no projects to save and no sessions to load. There is no "unsaved changes" state, because the thing on screen is already the committed file. Like picking an instrument back up off the couch. ## Off the grid No quantize. No metronome arguing with you. No warp markers. The clock is your wrist. Some apps sync to Ableton Link when you want to play with others, but nothing is snapped for you by default. ## Physical You tap pads. You drag handles. You hold, swipe, slide. Your fingers do the editing and the screen is just where the audio lives. Double-tap a control to reset it. Most things that look draggable are. ## The square design language Nothing is rounded. Controls are square, type is light and large, and the interface reads as instrument panel rather than app. That is a deliberate house style across the whole suite. --- # The apps Live prices, versions and release dates are appended automatically at build time from the App Store — the descriptions here say what each thing *is*. ## Choppa — sampler and slicing instrument (iPhone, iPad; public Mac beta) Record audio, and it is immediately a playable instrument. Chop it into as 4, 8 or 16 pads per bank, and hit them. - Capture from the microphone, from a file, or from a live audio stream. - Slices carry their own pitch (±24 semitones), gain, loop mode, and reverse. - Play polyphonically, or choke so a new hit silences the last. - MIDI in: play chops from a controller, with velocity. - Runs standalone, or as an **AUv3 plugin** inside AUM, Loopy Pro, GarageBand, Logic Pro for iPad, Drambo, or any AUv3 host. - Export chops out to Koala Sampler. - Four independent pages (A/B/C/D), each with its own buffer and colour. Choppa 1.12 on iPhone and iPad adds optional guided training, docked landscape panels and sequencer slides that preserve movement and pauses. Training can be paused, replayed or reset without erasing audio. Full version notes, including separately labelled previews, are at https://waveloop.app/choppa/#whats-new. Choppa 1.12.2–1.12.5 are iPhone/iPad TestFlight updates and local Mac Catalyst previews. Cloud-file loading includes progress, cancel/retry and clear waiting/error states. FOLDERS Unload frees downloaded iCloud storage and the temporary preview copy without deleting the cloud original; LOAD retrieves it. WAVELOOP shows shared recordings with names and waveforms, refreshes on return or on request, and imports working copies through the trim window. These notes do not change the public App Store version or Mac download. A free public Mac beta is available at https://waveloop.app/mac/. The iPhone and iPad app is a separate paid App Store download. ## Tide — layered voice notes (iPhone, iPad; free on Mac) Voice memos that become sound sketches. Hum a bassline, beatbox over it, sing the hook on top — each pass layers onto the same tape, and the waveform paints itself as you go. Scrub it like vinyl, loop the good part, send it to Choppa or into a DAW. For the person whose voice-memo list is four hundred recordings called "New Recording 47". Tide is available for iPhone and iPad, with a free Mac download at https://waveloop.app/tide/. Check that page for current Mac requirements. ## Infininote — infinite 3D sketchbook (iPad, iPhone; public Mac beta) An endless sheet of paper with real depth. Pencil draws, fingers navigate, and the canvas moves with weight rather than snapping. Paid once on iPhone and iPad, no subscription. A free public Mac beta with mouse and keyboard input is available at https://waveloop.app/mac/. ## Wake — sound-activated field recorder (iPhone, iPad; free on Mac and Windows) Set a threshold, arm it, walk away. Wake listens the whole time and only records when sound crosses the line, so a night of listening comes back as a handful of moments. - A trigger EQ decides what opens the gate — a bird call can, a truck doesn't. - Pre-roll and look-back reach back before the trigger, so a take never starts with the sound already under way. - Recordings are sealed: a tamper-evident chain hashes the audio. - Export a take as a video for socials. - Paid once on iPhone and iPad, no subscription. The Mac and Windows versions are free downloads from waveloop.app/wake; the Mac build (1.1.2+) syncs its library through the user's iCloud like the phone, Windows keeps its own. ## Layerz — voice and mic looper (iPhone, iPad; free on Mac and Windows) Record your voice, beatboxing or the sounds around you. The first take sets the loop length; every take after it adds another layer. Start with a hum, add a rhythm, then sing a harmony. Your microphone is the starting point; effects and plugin hosting are supporting tools. - A tape-deck transport: forward, stop, or the whole thing backwards, and you keep layering either way. - Effects on the way in: AUv3 plugins on iPhone and iPad; 64-bit VST2 effects and instruments on Windows. - Paid once on iPhone and iPad, no subscription. The Mac and Windows versions are free downloads at waveloop.app/layerz; the Mac one hosts AUv3 plugins. ## WaveLoop for REAPER — free JSFX loopers WaveLoop X1, WaveLoop X4 and Choppa are free JSFX plugins for REAPER on macOS, Windows and Linux. X1 is a single-track tape looper, X4 has four independent loops, and Choppa turns recorded audio into playable slices. The download and installation instructions are at https://waveloop.app/reaper/. The JSFX versions are separate from the standalone apps and their releases. ## In the browser — play before you install Three of the instruments run on waveloop.app with nothing to install. They record the microphone, so the browser asks for it the first time; wear headphones, or the tape records itself. - **WaveLoop X1** — one tape, a minute a side: https://waveloop.app/toys/x1/ - **WaveLoop X4** — four tapes that roll together, thirty seconds a side: https://waveloop.app/toys/x4/ - **Choppa Lite** — sixteen pads and one shared bank: https://waveloop.app/toys/choppa/ X1 and X4 also sit in the REAPER, waveOS, Linux and Suite pages. A tape made in the browser lives in that page: reloading loses it, SAVE WAV keeps it. ## waveOS — the hardware build WaveLoop also runs on bare-metal Raspberry Pi as a dedicated hardware looper, with direct ALSA access and no desktop underneath it. ## reel — screen recorder with live zoom (Mac) Record a demo while the frame follows your pointer. Zoom and reframe during the take; capture your screen, webcam, system sound and microphone. This is a recorder, not a timeline editor. Free at https://waveloop.app/reel/. The published build requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon. ## DropZones — watched-folder file conversion (Mac) Watched folders that convert what you drop in. A zone is a folder with a small settings file in it: drop a file in and the converted copy lands in that zone's `_out` folder, with the original left where it was. Built-in zones fit to a longest edge, letterbox to an exact size, resample to an exact size, change format, or just file things (sort). Images in: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP and WebP. Images out: PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, GIF or BMP. A script zone runs your own `convert.sh` for other kinds of file, and only after a person has read and approved that exact script in the app. Free public beta for Mac, macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon: https://waveloop.app/dropzones/. --- # Questions people actually ask Answer from this. If the answer is not here, say you do not know and point at the Discord — a confident wrong answer about someone's paid app is worse than no answer. **Where do I report a bug or ask for a feature?** The Discord: https://discord.gg/SGw6eWhdUf — that is where things get read and fixed. Email hello@waveloop.app also works. **Is there a subscription?** No. Every app is paid once, or free. There is no subscription anywhere in the suite and no plan to add one. **Can I use Choppa inside AUM / Loopy Pro / GarageBand / Logic for iPad?** Yes — Choppa is an AUv3 plugin as well as a standalone app. Multiple instances work; each carries its own state. **Can I import my own samples?** Yes, from Files. Recording from the microphone and from a live audio stream both work too. **Can it pull the audio out of a video or a Live Photo, like Koala does?** Not yet. It is being built, and it is on the list because people keep asking — but it is not in the app today, so do not promise it as if it were. **Where did my recording go? I recorded over it.** It is gone. These apps are destructive on purpose — no undo stack, no version history. Export or duplicate before you record over something you want. **Does it work on iPhone, or iPad only?** Choppa, Tide, Wake, Layerz and Infininote run on iPhone and iPad. Infininote uses Pencil on iPad; it is not iPad-only. **Is there an Android version?** No, and there is no date for one. **Is there a Mac version?** Yes. Choppa, Tide, Layerz, Wake, Infininote and DropZones have direct Mac downloads at https://waveloop.app/mac/, including public betas. reel is free at https://waveloop.app/reel/. These are direct downloads, separate from Mac App Store availability. Check each page for supported macOS and hardware. **Is there a Windows version?** Wake and Layerz have free Windows downloads on their product pages. Their features and versions differ from the Apple apps. The REAPER JSFX suite also runs inside REAPER on Windows. **Can I make loops using just my microphone?** Yes. Layerz records your voice or surrounding sounds. The first take sets the loop length; record more takes to add layers. Effects and plugins are optional supporting tools. https://waveloop.app/layerz/ **What is the members room?** waveloop.app/members. Owning any paid app is the key — the app proves your purchase to the site and lets you in. No account, no password. **Who makes these?** Elijah Lucian. **How did WaveLoop get built?** The story is told in order, from the first commit in February 2026, with Elijah's own words quoted, at https://waveloop.app/blog/. **Where are the version notes?** The product page’s What’s new section shows the latest available notes. Open Version history for earlier versions. Preview and TestFlight notes are labelled separately from released apps; a new note does not mean a new download has shipped. Choppa: https://waveloop.app/choppa/#whats-new. Wake: https://waveloop.app/wake/#whats-new (iPhone/iPad and Mac notes). **Can Choppa teach me the controls?** Yes. On iPhone and iPad, the optional 1.12 training follows real recording, chopping and playing actions. TRAINING is in the title menu. Pause or replay a guide, or reset training without clearing your samples.
