Wake — Privacy Policy
Wake ("the App") is a sound-activated field recorder. This policy explains exactly what the App does with your data. The short version: your recordings and your location stay on your own devices and your own iCloud — we, the developer, never collect, receive, or have access to any of it.
1. Audio Recordings
Wake records audio through your device's microphone when a sound crosses a threshold you set. All recordings are stored locally on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud Drive container. Recordings are never transmitted to us or to any third-party server we control.
2. Location
Location stamping is optional and off until you turn it on. When enabled, Wake stamps each recording with your coordinates so the recording's tamper-evident audit trail records where it was captured. This location data is stored inside the recording's files on your device and your iCloud — it is not sent to us. A "Hide location in UI" setting lets you suppress all on-screen location for screenshots and sharing. Place names are resolved using Apple's on-device geocoder.
3. Speech Transcription & Sound Classification
Wake can transcribe speech in your recordings and classify sounds, using Apple's built-in frameworks:
- Sound classification runs entirely on-device (Apple's Sound Analysis) — no audio leaves your device.
- Speech transcription / live dictation uses Apple's Speech framework. By default it runs on-device. You may optionally switch to Apple's cloud recognizer in Settings, in which case audio is sent to Apple for transcription under Apple's Privacy Policy. We never receive this audio or its transcript.
4. iCloud Sync
If iCloud is enabled, your Wake library syncs across your own devices through your personal iCloud account, managed entirely by Apple. We have no access to your iCloud data.
5. What We Collect
Nothing. Wake contains no analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no accounts. The App makes no network requests to any server operated by the developer. Standard, anonymous App Store metrics and crash reports are handled by Apple according to their policies (and only if you opt in via your device settings).
Fonts: only when you fetch a Google Fonts family for a video's words, Wake downloads it from Google (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) under Google's Privacy Policy; nothing from your recordings goes with the request.
6. Children
Wake does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be posted on this page.
