One engine under all of them.
Three iPhone apps were about to share the hardest code in the family. Layerz was built to be where that code gets proven first. Then Wake got its name.

By June there were two instruments on the App Store and a third on the way, and each had its own way of talking to the microphone. That is how one crash gets fixed three times.
The answer started in late May as a proof of concept for layering in real time. By June 12 it was an app with a transport, a waveform, an input chain and AUv3 effects. It was called Layerz, and it had a second job.
put in the root of this project that layerz is meant to serve as a source of truth for the ios audio shit.

So it says that, at the root of the project, to this day. A hard audio technique is proven in Layerz first and carried out to the others. A fix that lands somewhere else is carried back.
What the reference holds.
- One callback does monitoring, overdub and playback. What you hear while you record is what the tape plays back.
- Nothing on the audio thread asks for memory. The tape grows from a pool that was filled ahead of time.
- A phone call, Siri, a pulled headphone cable, another app taking the mic: the engine stops clean and comes back where it was.
On July 1, Choppa 1.6 moved onto that engine. On July 9 a crash on audio interruptions was fixed in two apps in one change, which is the whole point.
Then Wake.
The other thing that fortnight began as a branch name: threshold-sound-recording. A recorder that sleeps until something makes a sound, records it, and goes back to sleep. It landed on a phone on July 1. Three days later it had a name and a face.
remember all the settings between loads. now its called 'wake'. put the title in micro5 at the top in a shiny blue to white with audio level.

The first six words of that message are the family rule. Two days later he said it outright, about a normalization setting that hadn't stuck:
everything in waveloop is 'pick it up where you left it'

Layerz is a looper for your voice. Wake catches the sounds that cross a threshold. Under both is the same engine. You never see it, which is how you know it's working.
